What You Can Earn and Learn as a Blade Repair Technician

We recently shared our 2025 blade technician pay rates on LinkedIn. And well… the post blew up! But not with an deluge of applications (although we did receive many), but with praising us for publicising the pay rates.

Turns out people value transparency. Who would have thought?!

In an industry where pay is often kept vague, we believe in being upfront.

So, whether you’re already on the ropes or just starting to explore a career in wind energy, here’s what you should know about the earning potential, career development, and where this path could take you.

So, What do Blade Techs Actually Earn?

Pay depends on your level of IRATA certification and technical sign-off, but here’s the ballpark:

   •   IRATA Level 1: £27–£31 per hour

   •   IRATA Level 2: £31–£35 per hour

   •   IRATA Level 3: £35–£39 per hour

We’ve seen a lot of appreciation for this transparency, but also think it should just be a standard. People deserve to know what their skills are worth.

Starting From Scratch? That’s Welcome Here.

The wind industry needs fresh talent, and we’re helping people step into it.

Trainee blade techs at Bladestar get:

   •   Full training with experienced specialists

   •   Real hands-on repairs (not just fill and paints)

   •   Support to build long-term careers, not just seasonal work

No experience doesn’t mean no opportunity. It just means you’re at the start of something solid.

For the Seasoned Pros

Already got blade repair experience? Even better.

Our experienced techs get the chance to work on structural defects, complex repairs, and industry-leading sites. You’ll still need to pass a trade test, but after that, it’s full steam ahead.

We often work on high-end projects with challenging environments, and we’re always keen to bring new expertise into the fold.

What Does a Career Pathway Look Like in Blade Repair?

It’s not just “rope access + cosmetic repairs”.

The pathway from technician to lead tech and beyond is real and achievable.

As you level up in IRATA and expand your repair skills, you can specialize in complex laminations, defect analysis, composite troubleshooting, internal repair ect.

It’s a niche trade, but an incredibly valuable one. And with the renewable sector continuing to grow, it’s a smart place to build a long-term future.

Curious About Working With Us?

We’re always looking for skilled, committed people, both new and experienced, who want to do good work with good people.
